What Are GLP-1's?
GLP-1 stands for glucagon-like peptide-1, a hormone released in your gut after you eat. It tells your brain that you're full, slows how quickly food leaves your stomach, and improves insulin sensitivity. That means you feel fuller longer and eat less, and it helps your body use blood sugar more effectively.
However, GLP-1 do more than reduce appetite. They provide an anti-inflammatory benefit, largely because they help reduce visceral (intra-abdominal) fat, which is itself, highly inflammatory tissue. By shrinking visceral fat stores, GLP-1 help decrease the release of inflammatory cytokines, which contributes to improved blood sugar control, lower blood pressure, and a healthier lipid profile.

GLP-1 Role
Key Benefits & Effects
1.Pancreatic System (Pancreas): Stimulates insulin secretion and suppresses glucagon release (both glucose-dependent). Improves blood glucose control; lowers HbA1c; reduces hypoglycemia risk
2. Gastrointestinal System (Gut): Slows gastric emptying and modulates gut motility. Enhances satiety, reduces appetite, supports weight loss.
3. Central Nervous System (Brain): Acts on hypothalamic receptors to reduce food intake and increase satiety signals. Decreases caloric intake; helps with weight management
4. Cardiovascular System (Heart): Improves endothelial function, reduces inflammation, and may lower blood pressure. Lowers cardiovascular event risk (shown in major trials); improves lipid profile.
5. Hepatic System (Liver): Reduces hepatic glucose output indirectly via decreased glucagon and improved insulin sensitivity. Decreases fasting glucose; reduces fatty liver risk.
6. Renal System (Kidneys): Promotes natriuresis (sodium excretion) and may protect renal endothelial function. Lowers blood pressure; provides kidney protection in diabetics.
7. Adipose Tissue (Fat): Improves insulin sensitivity and reduces lipotoxicity. Supports fat loss and metabolic health.
8. Musculoskeletal System (Bones/Muscle): Improves glucose uptake in skeletal muscle via insulin enhancement. Supports energy metabolism and glucose homeostasis
